The striking illustrations give life to the ancient setting
Vividly depicting the tumultuous world of Roman civil war
Each player is a Roman general in command of an army, which is composed of cohorts.
When you earn more cohort cards, your army grows.

The more powerful the enemy, the more plunder cards
you earn for defeating them.
For the first part of the game, players take turns fighting against foreign enemies
and collecting plunder.
Plunder cards can contain weapons, gold, or cohorts (as seen in the first panel).
As the game progresses and you accumulate victories against foreign enemies,
you will amass great riches and power!

When you're ready to
to try to win the game, you march on Rome and declare yourself the dictator!
Once a player feels they have become more powerful than the other players,
they can make their move and attempt to win the game.
But of course the other players will not simply stand by and let you buy 10 senators.
They will march on Rome to stop you. Have you amassed enough resources to
fend of the other players and buy 10 senators?
10 senators is declared Dictator for Life and wins the game!
The dictator is not allowed to battle against foreign enemies and accumulate more plunder.
Instead the dictator uses their turn to buy senators (up to 5 per turn).
The first dictator to buy
The essence of the game is balance - when do you fight foreign enemies to accumulate more plunder? When do you attempt to spend your gold by declaring yourself the dictator and buying senators? What your opponents are doing will often force your hand!
In addition to the card types described earlier, there is the most versatile and powerful
card type - tactics cards! Tactics cards offer a wide range of uses -
from assassinating senators, to convincing other players' cohorts to join your army!
An individual tactics card can drastically change the course of the game.

There is one more aspect of Dictator for Life worth mentioning before you go.
Do you remember the part where players declare themselves the dictator?
When you declare yourself the dictator, you do so by giving a short speech to the
other players! You have up to one minute to flex your oratory skills and tell everyone
why YOU should be the dictator. But if you don't feel like giving a speech - no problem.
Your speech can be as short and sweet as, "I declare myself the dictator!"
Dictator for Life players are encouraged to shoot video of their speeches
and submit them to dictatorforlife.com to be showcased alongside
all the greatest orators in our community.
